Malin 2 Mizen

Your Challenge

The   Malin   2   Mizen   Challenge   offers   a   new   twist   to the   traditional   races   we   have   seen   in   Ireland.      The challenge   is   to   get   from   Malin   Head   to   Mizen   head in   30   hours   by   designing   your   own   route.      Cyclists will   have   to   work   in   pairs   i.e.   male   team,   female team   or   mixed   and   design   their   own   route   to   get from   Malin   head   to   Mizen   head   in   under   30   hours.     A support   crew   of   no   more   than   two   people   is   allowed for   each   pair   and   a   singular   vehicle   is   only   allowed to   support   the   team.   The   event   will   start   at   Malin Head   on   Saturday   the   2nd   of   June   2018   and   each team   will   start   in   three   minutes   intervals   in   each category    and    by    choosing    their    route    arrive    at Mizen   head   at   some   stage   on   Sunday   the   3rd   of June.         Each   cyclist   can   take   turns   throughout   the course   advancing   towards   the   finish   line.   Cyclists can   rotate      as   often   as   necessary   in   accordance with   the   rules   which   will   be   provided   to   you   all   at   a later stage. A tracking device will be fitted at all times to the cyclist on the road and has to be moved between the cyclists on rotations. 

Your Course

The   route   is   decided   by   the   respective   team   and   in   accordance   with   the   rules   of   the   road,   however   there   will   be   two   waypoints   which cyclists   have   to   pass   located   in Athlone   and   Limerick. There   will   be   marshals   located   at   different   points   along   the   route   therefore   breeches such   as   cycling   on   a   motorway   ,   use   of   ferries,   etc   is   forbidden.   Rules   of   the   road   have   to   be   obeyed   at   all   times. Any   breaking   of   the   Event rules or Rules of the Road will obviously lead to disqualification. As mentioned more details on the route and rules to follow. The   fastest   and   most   direct   route   is   part   of   the   challenge   set   by   Sports   Event   Management.   This   is   not   just   a   cycle   it   is   an   orienteering challenge based on road surface, prevailing wind and hill avoidance or inclusion. 

Your Charity

Along   with   the   challenge   of   getting   from   Malin   to   Mizen   head   within   the   designated   time,   the   2   person   team   also   have   the   opportunity   to fundraise   for   their   own   charity.      Sports   Event   Management   have   worked   with   many   charities   in   the   past   and   note   the   good   work   been   done by   all   the   different   charities   therefore   once   the   entry   fee   has   been   paid   by   the   team   any   other   monies   raised   by   the   team   can   go   directly to the charity/charities of their choosing if they so wish.
